Trying to get my brain to go back 20+ years doesn't work as well as it used to--but I recall putting "Raunch" camp lyrics to the tune of the song "Away with Rum". Most of them come back to mind--there's one phrase that won't surface:

The Song of the Triple K Ranch Staff
We're coming, we're coming, our bright little band.
On the downwind of horses we do take our stand.
We don't ever ride them because we do feel
That people who do so are likely to keel. (over, that is)

Chorus:
Away, away with horses, of course.
Horses of course, horses of course.
Away, away with horses, of course
The song of the Triple K Ranch Staff.

We never brush horses, we think its a crime.
You never can rid them of dirt and of grime.
To rid a proud horse of her natural "cest",
Would ensure that she'd never perform at her best.
Chorus

We never feed horses, we think its absurd.
For each little oat turns into a turd.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx recycled hay.
Chorus

Sorry about the missing phrase--anyone else? I don't remember ever writing it down. The "proud" horse, of course, referred to Gypsy, the big black draft mare that Laura Huffman liked so much. And "cest" was a reference to "Cesty", the decrepit blue station wagon we hauled food in. I'm sure the health department wouldn't have thought much of her, but no one ever died of food poisoning.

I think I do have the lyrics of Tennessee Stud written down somewhere, but I'll have to look it up. I'm headed for Kern today for a weekend of Family Camp so maybe the atmosphere there will help me remember.

Tally-ho!

I'm one of those people that holds onto way too much stuff, but I
still have my notebook from 1976-79 with camp songs! Here are the
lyrics Lynn was missing :

We never feed horses, we think its absurd
Fore each little oat turns into a turd.
Cleaning the stalls in itself is okay,
but we really get tired of recycled hay.

The dust in the barnyard is really quite thick.
To teach a class init could make us quite sick.
So therefore we won't teach our classes today.
We'll just go to the old barn and lay in the hay.

We love main camp trail rides, we fight for the chore.
A walk around the lake is really a bore.
The horses eat grass, the kids scream and cry.
And good old Charlie Brown just heaves a great sigh.

I hadn't thought about that song in years, but I can hear the tune and
picture the dancing that went with it!
